La Iseo Serrature Rime Carnovali torna a salire sul podio e lo fa in una delle classiche più veloci ed affascinanti del calendario infrasettimanali sul circuito di Caselle di Sommacampagna (Vr) grazie alla determinazione e alla tenacia di Matteo Furlan. I ragazzi diretti dal ds Daniele Calosso hanno interpretato al meglio la bagarre andata in scena nella prova che metteva in palio il 23° Gran Premio San Luigi riuscendo ad inserirsi nella prima parte del gruppo forte di una quarantina di unità che ha preso il largo ed è andata a giocarsi il successo in una volata a ranghi ristretti. Nello sprint decisivo Matteo Furlan è stato tra i migliori inchinandosi solo alla strepitosa progressione di Cristian Rocchetta (General Store), conquistando così una prestigiosa medaglia d'argento. "Oggi i ragazzi hanno capito l'importanza di non darsi mai per vinti" ha sottolineato il ds Daniele Calosso dopo il traguardo. "I numerosi attacchi che hanno frazionato la corsa hanno messo a dura prova i tanti velocisti ai nastri di partenza, per questo con il passare dei chilometri sono usciti i corridori con più fondo. Matteo in questo tipo di corse si esalta e anche oggi ha ottenuto un podio importantissimo che ci permette di guardare con fiducia ai prossimi appuntamenti". E il calendario gare della Iseo Serrature Rime Carnovali prevede sabato la sfida di Casalnoceto (Al) a cui seguirà domenica l'internazionale di Poggiana (Tv) per poi proseguire con i traguardi di Vittorio Veneto (Tv) il 15 di agosto e di Guazzora (Al) il prossimo 18 agosto.

EUROPEI CRONO ELITE GLASGOW

A Glasgow si assegnano i titoli europei élite della cronometro femminile e maschile. Le prime a gareggiare sulla distanza di 32,3 chilometri sono le donne con le due azzurre convocate da Salvoldi, Marta Cavalli ed Elisa Longo Borghini al nastro di partenza rispettivamente alle ore 10,10 e 10,31 (ora italian). Grande favorita l'olandese Ellen Van Dijk, che partirà alle 10,33. Dalle ore 14 (ora italiana) al via sulla distanza di 45,7 km gli uomini élite. Il campione uscente è il belga Victor Campenaerts, ultimo a partire alle ore 14,33. L’Italia è rappresentata da Moreno Moser (partenza ore 14,13) e Filippo Ganna (ore 14,31).

GRANFONDO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Dopo gli ottimi riscontri turistico/ricettivi del canottaggio nei mesi di giugno e luglio, anche il mese di settembre si annuncia col botto quando la farà da protagonista il ciclismo con la Gran Fondo World Championships, in programma dal 29 agosto al 2 settembre. A quattro settimane dall’evento i numeri sono già di assoluto rilievo: gli atleti già iscritti sono più di 2000 dei quali l’89% stranieri provenienti da oltre 40 nazioni, con Gran Bretagna e Australia in cima alla classifica. Si tratta di numeri destinati sicuramente ad aumentare, non si andrà lontano dai 3000 partecipanti. A questi sono da aggiungere altrettanti accompagnatori per un totale di almeno 5000 presenze, persone che soggiorneranno sul territorio in media 3 giornate. “Questi dati sono l’evidenza che gli eventi sportivi possono generare importati ricadute per il tessuto ricettivo del territorio e per tutta la filiera, con un indotto economico immediato e un ritorno importante anche in termini di promozione e visibilità per il futuro – dichiara con soddisfazione Fabio Lunghi Presidente della Camera di Commercio di Varese. TRENTINO MTB

I verdetti de “La Vecia Ferovia dela Val de Fiemme” di Trentino MTB sono lapidari: Francesco Vaia scalza Andrea Clauser e si porta in testa al circuito, mentre Sandra Lever riesce con tenacia a mantenere la vetta. Le principali insidie per quest’ultima - in vista dell’ultima tappa - sono rappresentate dalla bergamasca Simona Mazzucotelli e dalla scaligera Chiara Burato, con la prima a pagare l’appannamento iniziale dell’avvio di stagione e la seconda un’assenza che le potrebbe costare il titolo. Maglia oro dunque ai due, ma nemmeno Vaia può dormire sonni tranquilli, essendo tallonato dai due “Andrea”, Clauser appunto e Zamboni. Alla “3TBIKE” l’ardua sentenza - un compito decisamente importante - ora più che mai viste le distanze così risicate fra gli atleti, a conclusione di un’annata più che competitiva per i fenomeni delle ruote grasse in Trentino. Il vantaggio di Elia Andriollo su Enrico Marietti fra gli junior è invece un po’ più rassicurante (ma non troppo), con Giacomo Antonello ancora leader della Open, così come Sandra Lever nella Open femminile. Riconferme anche per Marco Rosati fra gli élite sport, mentre doppia delusione per Andrea Clauser che perde anche la testa degli M1 nei confronti di Francesco Vaia. Andrea Zamboni capitana i Master 2 e la vetta assoluta non è poi così lontana; “switch” tra gli M3 con Massimo Piva a lasciare provvisoriamente il comando a Mauro Giovanetti, e le restanti categorie riconfermate: Stefan Ludwig fra i Master 4, Roberto Fondriest fra i Master 5 e Piergiorgio Dellagiacoma tra i Master 6, così come il Vertical Sport KTM Team a restare saldamente in sella con un buon margine sul Team Todesco. L’indomabile Sandra Lever svetta anche fra i migliori scalatori, “imitata” dal bravo Andrea Leonardi tra i maschi. Le sorti sportive dei bikers di Trentino MTB sono ora in mano alla “3TBIKE” di Telve Valsugana, una sfida che il 26 agosto regalerà un altro appuntamento prestigioso in compagnia delle ruote artigliate sugli sterrati del Trentino. I non abbonati al challenge potranno sfruttare le quote più che competitive di 28 euro, scegliendo fra due spettacolari percorsi: un XXL di 42.50 km e 1.785 metri di dislivello ed uno “short” di 21.5 km e 1000 metri di dislivello. Meno di una ventina di giorni soltanto e si torna di nuovo in sella il 26 agosto a Telve Valsugana con la 3TBike.

TEAM COLPACK

Ancora una volta si deve accontentare di un posto sul podio, ma che non è il gradino più alto, il veronese Enrico Zanoncello del Team Colpack oggi terzo nel 23° Gran Premio San Luigi e all’ennesimo podio della stagione. Non vuole proprio arrivare la vittoria in volata per il velocista scaligero che ancora una volta è lì davanti a giocarsela con i migliori ma non riesce a trovare la zampata decisiva. Dopo metà corsa al comando si forma un drappello di 19 corridori nel quali si inserisce Nicolas Dalla Valle. Il vicentino prova ad anticipare gli avversari ma non riesce a fare la differenza. Allora la formazione del team manager Antonio Bevilacqua decide di chiudere riportando un altro gruppetto inseguitore sulla testa della corsa per cercare di vincere la volata con Zanoncello. Lo sprint è serrato ma il successo premia Cristian Rocchetta (General Store bottoli), secondo Matteo Furlan (Iseo Serrature Rime Carnovali) e quindi terzo Zanoncello. La squadra del presidente Beppe Colleoni cercherà rivincita giovedì 9 agosto a Briga Novarese, nel il 35° Trofeo Sportivi di Briga. Poi tornerà in gara sabato 11 agosto a Casalnoceto (Alessandria) per il 14° Circuito Casalnoceto, quindi domenica 12 agosto al 43° Gran Premio Sportivi di Poggiana a Poggiana di Riese Pio X.

RACCONIGI CYCLING TEAM

Sylvie Truc parteciperà con la Nazionale italiana ai Campionati Europei di mountain bike che si correranno il 25 agosto a Pila in Val d’Aosta. La nostra allieva classe 2002 è stata convocata dal coordinatore delle squadre nazionali Davide Cassani su indicazione del commissario tecnico Mirko Celestino. Dopo le convocazioni di Matilde Vitillo agli Europei su strada Juniores e di Elena Bissolati agli Europei su pista Élite, questa è la terza convocazione in Nazionale per un’atleta del Racconigi Cycling Team nel 2018 e dimostra che l’impegno del Racconigi a favore della multi disciplinarietà sta funzionando. Sylvie Truc è nata l’11 gennaio 2002 ed è valdostana. È una allieva secondo anno e corre nel Racconigi Cycling Team dal 2018. Quest’anno ha corso sia su strada che in mountain bike. Su strada ha ottenuto otto piazzamenti di cui tre sul podio. Il risultato più importante su strada è stata la medaglia d’argento ai Campionati Italiani di Comano Terme. Il meglio di sé però Truc lo ha dato nel fuoristrada. A fine giugno ha vinto in solitaria la gara di Coppa Italia di Valle di Clasies (Bz) nonostante una caduta. Una settimana più tardi ha vinto il Campionato Italiano di mountain bike a Chies d’Alpago (Bl).

TOUR DE POLOGNE - 5TH STAGE

08 August, 2018 – Michal Kwiatkowski is putting on quite a show on the roads of Poland. After yesterday’s victory on the Szczyrk wall, today the Polish champion from Team Sky dominated again at Bielsko-Biala in the 5th stage of the Tour de Pologne – UCI World Tour. It was an electrifying finish along the last, slightly uphill, one km straightaway that led to the arrival. The sprinters left in the group seemed as if they might have prevailed; however in the end it came down to a fantastic head-to-head between the first and second place riders in the general classification. It was Kwiatkowski against Teuns, the national idol in the yellow jersey against the Belgian rider who won the 2017 edition. Like yesterday at Szczyrk, also today at Bielsko Biala the strongest rider was the Polish National Champion, who was fast enough and strong enough to beat everyone. At the finish line Dylan Teuns (BMC Racing) had to settle for second and Italian Enrico Battaglin (LottoNL – Jumbo) came in third; Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) the strong German sprinter who won the first two stages, was fourth and Italian Enrico Gasparotto (Bahrain Merida) fifth. Michal Kwiatkowski can thus count two career wins in the Tour de Pologne, and with a special 10” bonus he scored with today’s victory he has strengthened his lead in the general classification, where he now commands with 12” on Dylan Teuns and 20” on New Zealand’s George Bennett (LottoNL – Jumbo). Michal Kwiatkowski will show up on the starting grids for the last two stages of the Tour de Pologne wearing the Carrefour yellow jersey as the leader of the general classification. These next two stages in the Tatra Mountains will also be the hardest: tomorrow stage 6 will cover 129 km from Zakopane to Bukovina Resort and on Friday the 7th and last stage will be 136 km from Bukovina Resort to Bukowina Tatrzanska. Here’s a recap of today’s race: Today’s stage route was suited to breaks, spanning 152 km from the famous Salt Mines in "Wieliczka", located just outside of Krakow, to Bielsko-Biala. In fact, right after the start a small group of 7 riders went on the attack: Kazak Zhandos Bizhigitov (Astana), Frenchmen Mickael Delage (Fdj) and Matias Le Turnier (Cofidis), Russian Alexander Porsev (Gazprom) and Pole Kamil Zielinski (Reprezentacja Polski) – a rider who wore the yellow leader’s jersey for one day in the 2015 Tour de Pologne. Also in the gang was the Tauron magenta jersey Jan Tratnik (CCC Sprandi Polkowice) and the Lotto blue jersey Jenthe Biermans (Katusha – Alpecin); both riders were vying to rack up valuable points to reinforce their leads in their respective classifications as best climber and most active rider in the pack. This band of fugitives gained a maximum advantage of about 2’.30” With about 40 km to go to the arrival, three riders in the group fell; nr.85, Ben Gastauer (Ag2r) saw the worst of it and was forced to drop out. About 35 km from the arrival, after the day’s final GPM, the fugitives ahead of the race were down to 4 riders: Zielinski, Tratnik, Bizhigitov and Le Turnier. Then at the beginning of the three, 7.2 km laps around the final Bielsko-Biala circuit, there were only 3 fugitives left: Zielinski, Tratnik and Le Turnier. They all got caught at the end of the first lap, when there were just 14 km to go to the arrival, with the pack being spurred on particularly by the men on Team Sky with Kwiatkowski in the yellow jersey, as well as by team Mitchelton-Scott. At this point in the last two laps there were repeated attacks, with the group leaving no room for escape. And the final sprint was a sheer spectacle, with Michal Kwiatkowski as the star of an extraordinary performance beating everyone in the sprint. The TDP classifications The Carrefour yellow jersey is being worn by Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky), who clearly leads the Lotos classification for best Polish rider as well. Slovenia’s Jan Tratnik (CCC Sprandi Polkowice) hangs on to the Tauron magenta jersey as best climber and Belgian Jenthe Biermans (Katusha-Alpecin) still holds the Lotto blue jersey as the most active rider in the group. Germany’s Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) is back in the Hyundai white jersey for best sprinter. BMC Racing leads the team classification. Riders’ quotes… “Today's win was really unexpected and a great success. I knew that there were many sprinters who would be fighting for the stage win in the bunch, but I really didn’t expect to win it. During the last part of the stage I said to my team that I would try to go for the sprint and try to be at the front of the pack in the last 2km - it was one of my longest sprints ever and the long drag really wore out all the sprinters and GC contenders. I might have started too early, but if you are sprinting against people like Pascal Ackermann, you might have to start early to weaken the dynamic sprinters. In the end I had a lot of great sprinters around me and I kept looking around to evaluate the positioning, but eventually I managed to win it and the feeling is amazing. It’s great to win such a stage the way I did, so now on to the next stages. For sure Teuns and I will not give up sparring against each other to win this race, and I saw how angry he was after today’s stage, so for sure he will not give up tomorrow. That’s the Tour de Pologne, though, and you have to fight until the end. There are 2 more stages left though and anything can happen, but I’m happy that I could finish today within my comfort zone and still have the energy left for the rest of the Tour,” says Michal Kwiatkowski. “It wasn’t the hardest one of this year’s climbing stages, but it was still hard for the final sprint. Mitchelton-Scott were driving up the pace in the last part of the race so everyone was nervous, but I was very well positioned in the last few km into the finish line and could successfully sprint. With 300m I was almost touching the wheel at the front so I eased off a bit, which might have cost me the win today but I had to lose the speed at that 300m point. It was unlucky, but I’m still happy because I didn’t lose any time today“ says Dyaln Teuns. “Today was a mountain stage and I couldn’t be happier with the 4th place in today’s stage. As a sprinter, racing in a climbing stage against the GC contenders was a big challenge and a big achievement to have got 4th. The last climb really surprised me, as it was much harder than I expected, so this result matters even more to me. For sure it was not easy to compete against riders like Kwiatkowski” says the white Hyundai jersey Pascal Ackermann. “I came here to support the main sprinter, Nathan Haas, and Poland was not originally in my plans. Unfortunately, Nathan was unwell from the first day and I got a free hand to go in breakaways on the first stages. After so many days in the breakaway I would say that the blue jersey is almost safe, but I like riding hard races and I will still do my best in all the other stages of Tour de Pologne too. It’s good to be in the break and to feel afterwards tired from the job well done” says the Lotto blue jersey Jenthe Biermans.
